This photograph was originally taken by Alexander Gardner at Antietam, Maryland on October 3rd, 1862. This slide was part of Herbert Wells Fay historic collection. H. W. Fay was custodian of Lincoln's Tomb for 28 years, from 1921 to 1948 in Springfield, Illinois and a lifelong collector of Lincoln memorabilia.
