Document written and signed by 1st New York State Volunteer regiment commanding officer, colonel Pierson. This letter of recommendation was written for lieutenant Austin V. Eastman (Company I). Abraham Lincoln read and added a handwritten paragraph, signed and dated June 20th, 1863. It comes with a letter from the Library of Congress dated March 16th, 1981 in which the Acting Chief confirms the accuracy of the letter content as well as the authenticity of Lincoln handwriting. All others documents pictured are for illustration purpose and are the property of the New York State Military Museum and the NARA.
