Nice officers typewriter with field carrying case and OD fabric cover.
The wood case appears to have been made on the field and shows the officer's name and serial number on the lid.
The typewriter is secured by two OD canvas straps and a metal hook.
The case lock and handle seems to be a civilian production.

The typewriter was manufactured by "L.C. Smith & Corona Typewriters Inc." and is a flattop portable model "Corona Standard". The serial number is "1C 125794", dating it between 1935 and 1941.

The box is identified to "1st Lt. Merlin F. Smith 0-974120".
According to the WWII memorial, and the information submitted by Lt. Smith's wife, Lt. Smith served in the US training troops and received the good conduct medal, the army commendation medal, the combat infantry badge and the WWII victory medal.
If Lt. Smith was awarded the CIB, it is most probable that he was once assigned to a combat unit deployed overseas.

Si le Lt. Smith à reçu le CIB, il est plus que probable qu'il est combattu au sein d'une Division déployée à l'outre-mer.
